What is Hatha Yoga?
If you break the word Hatha down, Ha means sun (active, fiery) and tha means moon (receptive, cool). Hatha Yoga is a way of practicing poses or a sequence of poses that create balance and alignment within our body. We develop a balance of strength (sun) AND flexibility (moon). We learn to balance out our effort with some ease or surrender in our practice. Hatha Yoga is about balancing opposition in our bodies to remain centered. You are working some muscles of your body while stretching other muscles at the same time. At the end of your practice, we release the body from all the effort of your practice, bringing the sun and moon back into balance, restoring the balance in your body.
